Einführung

"wish"

Wir können „wish" verwenden, um:

• den Wunsch nach etwas in der Zukunft in einem formellen oder höflichen Ton auszudrücken:
  „I wish to attend the meeting."
• den Wunsch nach etwas in der Zukunft für jemand anderen, in der Regel unter Verwendung von festen Ausdrücken, zu äußern:
  „I wish him the best of luck."

"wish" / "if only"

Wir können „wish" und „if only" verwenden, um einen unwahrscheinlichen oder unmöglichen Wunsch oder ein Bedauern zum Ausdruck bringen:

• mit dem Simple Past, um einen unmöglichen Wunsch in der Gegenwart zum Ausdruck zu bringen:
  • „I wish I lived in the countryside."
  • „If only I lived in the countryside."
    Ich lebe zurzeit nicht auf dem Land, so dass dieser Wunsch unmöglich ist.
  
  
• mit dem Plusquamperfekt, um ein Bedauern über die Vergangenheit zum Ausdruck zu bringen:
  • „I wish I hadn't eaten the prawns."
  • „If only I hadn't eaten the prawns."
    Ich bedauere, dass ich in der Vergangenheit die Garnelen aß.
  
  
• mit would/could, um einen Wunsch, von dem wir glauben, dass er in der Gegenwart unwahrscheinlich oder unmöglich ist, auszudrücken:
  • „I wish he would save money."
  • „I wish he could save money."
  • „If only he would save money."
  • „If only he could save money."
    nicht „I wish he will/can save money."
    Ich glaube nicht, dass er Geld sparen kann/wird, so dass dies ein unmöglicher Wunsch bezüglich seiner Fähigkeit, in der Gegenwart Geld zu sparen, ist.

Das Konjunktiv

Ausdrücke mit „wish" und „if only" sind Beispiele für den Konjunktiv, der verwendet wird, um unwahrscheinliche oder unmögliche Wünsche zum Ausdruck zu bringen (oder Empfehlungen ohne „wish" / „if only"). Mit dem Konjunktiv verwenden wir nur „were" (nicht „was":

• mit dem Simple Past von „be":
  • „I wish he were on holiday."
  • „If only he were on holiday."
  • (nicht „was here")
    Er ist nicht im Urlaub, so dass dies ein unmöglicher Wunsch in der Gegenwart ist.
  
  
• mit der Vergangenheit in der Verlaufsform:
  • „I wish I were going on holiday."
  • „If only I were going on holiday."
  • (nicht „was going")
    Ich werde nicht in den Urlaub fahren, so dass dieser Wunsch in der Gegenwart oder Zukunft unmöglich ist.

Bedingungssätze

Wir können „wish" und „if only" verwenden, um einen erdachten oder unmöglichen Zustand in der Vergangenheit oder Gegenwart, gefolgt von einem Hauptsatz, der das erdachte Ergebnis schildert, zu beschreiben.

Die konditionale Struktur Typ II (Link zum Arbeitsblatt) für unmögliche Wünsche in der Gegenwart:

• "If only I didn't have a headache, I would/could go to the party tonight."
• "I wish I didn't have a headache, then I would/could go to the party tonight."
  Die wirkliche Situation und das Ergebnis: Ich habe Kopfschmerzen, so dass die gewünschte Absicht/Fähigkeit, in der Gegenwart zur Party zu gehen, ein erdachtes Ergebnis ist.

Die konditionale Struktur Typ III (Link zum Arbeitsblatt):

• "If only I'd taken the train, I would have arrived at the destination by now."
• "I wish I'd taken the train; I would have arrived at the destination by now."
  Die wirkliche Situation und das Ergebnis: Ich habe den Zug nicht genommen und bin nicht am Ziel angekommen, so dass dies ein erdachtes Ergebnis in der Vergangenheit ist.

Form - "wish"

Wir verwenden das Simple Present von „wish", um einen gegenwärtigen Wunsch nach etwas in der Zukunft zum Ausdruck zu bringen.

• Um einen Wunsch in einem formalen oder höflichen Ton auszudrücken:
  Subjekt + „wish" + „to" + Infinitiv

In diesem Fall verwenden wir nicht „then", weil die Erwartung/ Möglichkeit des Zeitpunkts der Ankunft zur gleichen Zeit wie das Eintreffen des Zuges passiert. Wir können die Reihenfolge der Sätze wie bei „if only" umdrehen:
